IRCC will introduce a new language proficiency test for Canadian immigration system in 2023

The IRCC has approved the preliminary designation of a new language exam for economic class immigration applicants. The exam is expected to be introduced by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) in early to mid-2023.

The new language test's name was concealed in a briefing memorandum. There are presently only four authorized organizations for English: IELTS and CELPIP, followed by TEF and TCF for French. According to the memorandum, IRCC will look for potential initiatives and improvements over the following 12 months. These reforms, if enacted, are anticipated to spark the attention of even more organizations in designation. There is currently no restriction to the number of language testing providers or contractual arrangements that IRCC can enter into.

The CLBs that are aligned with the CLBs with CEFR will be evaluated by IRCC.
IRCC is currently investigating the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) in relation to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). Rather than a range of one to seven, CEFR-test takers can now get marks on an alpha-numeric scale with A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2.
French language assessment should not be overlooked.
There is a greater need for French-designated organizations to improve their testing capabilities. As a result, in addition to TEF and TCF, a new French-appointed exam has been introduced to assess the possible rise in demand.

Since the return of all-program draws on July 6. IRCC invited 2000 Express Entry applicants to apply for permanent residency on August 3, 2022. The cut-off score for the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) was 533. The CRS requirement for the current draw is 9 points lower than the minimum cut-off score for the last all-program draw on July 20, which was 542.

Canada proposes to accept 55,900 permanent residents through Express Entry in 2022, with the number rapidly increasing to 111,500 by the end of 2024. The current policy of only accepting test results from certified independent testing companies was designed to allow more immigration applicants to demonstrate their language ability while also assuring a fair and transparent procedure.
